Skyline R-II Board Meeting
November 24, 2009
The Skyline R-II Board met in regular session on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 with four members present. The first line of business was to fill the vacancy on the Board. Three applicants were brought before the board. Two were present and the other presented a letter of interest. The Board read the letters of interest then interviewed the candidates. The Board voted to place James Brixey on the Board. Mr. Brixey will fill the vacant position until the next annual school election. The consent agenda items were then discussed and approved.
In old business, the board discussed the possibility of purchasing a security/surveillance camera for the parking lot. The Board decided to hold off on purchasing the camera.
In new business, the Board discussed and made changes to the Intermediate and Long Range Plans. Intermediate Plans includes upgrading technology, repairing the chain link fence, and putting permanent padding along the front of the stage. Another area to consider is putting a water softener and on demand water heaters in the locker rooms. Security cameras for the outside and hallways was added to the list as well as putting more insulation in part of the building. The Board would like to add some storage closets along one hallway to replace a variety of storage cabinets. The Long Range Plans include replacing the gym floor, the bleachers, and the old walk-in freezer. A security door and window was moved to the long range plan. The changes were made to the list and approved by the Board.
A variety of new and revised Policies and Regulations were reviewed. The following policies and regulations were mandated by the legislature: Compulsory Attendance Ages, Discipline, Foster Care Bill of Rights, and Teaching Standards. The rest of the policies were recommended changes: School Year and School Day, Virtual Instruction Program, and Record Retention/Destruction. All recommendations were approved.
In the Superintendent’s Report, MAP scores were presented along with the APR and AYP. Grade level scores were looked at along with subgroup categories of race, gender, IEP, LEP, and Free and Reduced Lunches. Statistics for October: enrollment 86 students K-8 with an ADA of 95% and 15 preschool students. School Board Candidate Filing will begin December 15 and end on Jan. 19 with 2 three year positions open and 1 one year position open. Next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday December 22, 2009 at 7:00 pm.
