Skyline R-II Board Meeting

March 23, 2010

The Skyline R-II Board met in regular session on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 with six members present.  The consent agenda items were discussed and approved.  Classroom teachers attended several different Professional Development Conferences funded through Federal Programs.  Conferences included:  Interface (Science and Math), Write to Learn, Pathways (At-Risk), and the Early Learning Conference.

In old business, a summary was presented of the proposed Ballot issue:  Proposition C waiver with examples given of the amount that individual taxes would be raised.  Summer School was discussed.  Skyline hopes to offer summer school again this year but the state is considering cutting funding to summer school.  A final decision will be made at the next board meeting.

In new business, the board approved the Insurance rates for next year.  Skyline is part of the OSS/Frisco consortium of school districts.  Insurance rates decreased a little from this year.   The Board set the date of the next Board Meeting as the time to discuss and set the school calendar for 2010-2011.  The calendar has to be discussed in an open hearing since the proposed start date is more than 10 days prior to Labor Day.  The Board reviewed and updated the Special Education Policies and Regulations adding two new ones regarding special education.  The Board also approved an updated Bullying Policy and an updated Internet Safety Policy.  The Board has decided to combine 4 classrooms into two classrooms for the 2010-2011 school year.  Grades that will be combined have yet to be determined.  This decision was not made lightly but was made because of declining enrollment and budget cuts from the state.
