Skyline R-II Board Meeting
March 17, 2011
The Skyline R-II Board met in regular session on Thursday March 17, 2011 with six members present. The consent agenda items were discussed and approved.
Old business: Board Member Tim Scrivner presented the Imagination Library Program. The program is sponsored by Dolly Parton and the Dollywood Foundation and provides children in a geological area one book per month from the age of birth until 5 years old. Mr. Scrivner is continuing to do research on the program and will get back to us next month.
New business: Skyline is part of the OSS/Frisco Insurance Consortium. The Board voted to continue to offer insurance from Anthem Blue Cross with the Board paying 85% of the base pay and allowing staff to upgrade to a HMO plan with subscriber paying the difference. A calendar hearing is set for April 21, 2011 to discuss the 2011-2012 calendar. The Board discussed options for next years 7th and 8th grade sports programs. This topic was tabled until next months Board meeting for more information. The Board voted to purchase a used bus from Norwood school to use as a spare bus. The Board voted to purchase a new riding lawn mower. Matthew James was hired as auditor for the 2011-2012 school year. The certified staff salary schedule base pay was set at $25,500 continuing with a $500 step for each year of teaching and $1000 step for each 10 hours of continuing education above a bachelor’s degree. Resignations were accepted from Virginia Fultz, Title I teacher, and Donna Boyd, head cook. The Board decided to eliminate the PAT program for next year pending funding.
In the Superintendent’s Report: Statistics for February: enrollment of 81 and 11 preschoolers with an attendance of 90%. School Board elections will be held April 5 and the Reorganizational Meeting is scheduled for April 7. Science Fair is March 31. The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 7, 2011 at 7:00 pm.
