Skyline R-II Board Meeting
February 24, 2010
The Skyline R-II Board met in regular session on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 with six members present. The meeting date was changed due to the Distinction in Performance Banquet and basketball games. The consent agenda items were discussed and approved.
In old business, the Board discussed the budget for the upcoming years. Several staff and community members were present to discuss changes needing to be made. The local Community Teachers Association presented a list of recommendations that they felt would benefit the students. Items that the CTA discussed were career ladder, teaching special classes, support staff, and combining classrooms. No changes or cuts have been decided as of yet. However, it was discussed that we need to cut several thousand dollars out of the budget to keep from deficit spending. This year’s budget is relying a lot on the Stimulus Funds from the Federal government which probably won’t be available next year. The Board will have a tax levy Prop C waiver proposition on the Ballot in April but these funds alone will not be enough to cover what we need. The Board really appreciated everyone that spoke at the meeting and all the ideas that was brought forth. Final decisions will be made in the few months as the budget for next year is finalized.
In new business, the board approved the MAP/Terra Nova testing schedule. MAP testing will take place April 12-23. A Reorganizational Board meeting was set for April 15, 2010 at 7:00 to elect new officers and swear in any new members. Summer School dates were set for June 1 through June 25. The Board made a motion to only allow DESE accredited organizations to solicit our 8th grade students for high school.
In the Superintendent’s Report: Statistics for January: enrollment 84 students K-8 with an ADA of 94% and 15 preschool students. Snow days and the corresponding make up days were discussed. Skyline has currently missed 9 days for snow and will be making up 8 of those days. Five make up days were built into the current schedule and the other 3 days have been added onto the end of the year making our last day of school set for May 21st. The School Board President and Superintendent attended the Distinction in Performance Banquet Tuesday evening. Letters were handed out that helps explain the Prop C Ballot issue that will be on the April Ballot. More information will be sent out via newspaper articles, emails, and newsletters. Anyone with questions or concerns may call the office at 683-4874. Next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday March 23, 2010 at 7:00 pm.
