Making friends can be hard. Keeping friends can be even harder. There are lots of rules for friendship. The #1 rule in friendship is the golden rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. NEVER think, "It's my way or the highway!" This is a GREAT way to LOSE friends. Not win them.
Top 10 Ways to lose your friends
10. Get in a fight with them over every little thing.
9. Stop making time for your friends.
8. Return phone calls or emails irregularly or not at all.
Your friends will soon realize that you just don't care about them.
7. Refuse to loan your friends money. Or, loan them money, and then hound them until they pay you back--with interest.
6. Refuse to listen to your friends. When they are speaking about something particularly important, stick your fingers in your ears and say, "La la la la."
5. Never forgive and forget. At every opportunity, remind your friends of the smallest slights.
4. Refuse to accept your friends' opinions on anything. Hammer
away at them with your point of view until the fall silent on the subject or
reluctantly agree with you.
3. Treat your friends like slaves. Never say, "Please," or
"Thank you," either.
2. Spread around the secrets they tell you. They trusted you enough to tell you, and they expect you not to spread it around.
And the number 1 way to lose your friends is:
1. Gossip about them behind their back.
11 Ways to Be Someone's Friend
1. Lose the Judgement. People don't like it when you judge them and decide to be or not be their friend depending on how they look.
2. Be Honest. People don't like liars.
3. Listen. Listening helps you and your friend
get closer. People who talk all the time are usually seen as self-absorbed.
4. Give Rather Than Take. Give things to your
friend expecting nothing in return.
5. Have fun. If you aren't having fun, at least act like it for the sake of your friend.
6. Learn to Compromise. You can't always get what you want. Neither can your friend. Learn to compromise and meet in the middle.
7. Trust Your Friend. Learn to trust your friend and they will learn to trust you.
8. Be Supportive. Sometimes all a friend needs is a shoulder to cry on. You need to be there for them.
9. Empathize. If you've gone through something, you can empathize and help them get through the same thing.
10. Touch. Touching someone's shoulder or rubbing their back is often overlooked and is just a small token of affection.
11. Share Your Feelings. When you share your feelings, they will share theirs with you and that brings you closer together.
